Girl on Fire

Women empowering women

JLW's Girl on Fire program focuses on educating young women on how to stand up for themselves and what confidence is. n the last year, the Girl on Fire committee has created a customizable curriculum to meet the needs of different community groups throughout the Ohio Valley. Groups can pick up to six modules (Empowerment, Confidence, Personal Branding, Growth Mindsets, Emotional Intelligence, and/or Mindfulness) to create a program that best suits their expectations and needs. Each module contains interactive exercises, take-home worksheets, and informational material all focused on building strong and independent women. Girl on Fire looks forward to working with even more community groups in 2020.

Kids in the Kitchen

Because cooking is fun

JLW's Kids in the Kitchen program teaches kids and teens the fundamentals of cooking while also providing valuable education about healthy eating. We partner with community organizations such as House of the Carpenter, Youth Services Systems, Florence Crittenton and many others, to conduct cooking classes that are both fun and educational.

Done in a Day

Taking the time to make a big impact

JLW's Done in a Day (DIAD) program is built on the belief that big impact can be made in a short amount of time. Whether its planting flowers, cleaning a playground or hosting a donation drive, these one-day initiatives aim for big results. Our impactful projects benefit organizations such as Easter Seals, Project Hope, Madison Elementary, Youth Services Systems, and Florence Crittenton.

Janie S. Altmeyer Playground

We believe in the power of play

The Janie S. Altmeyer Playground Rejuvenation Project involved swapping out dated materials with more sustainable substrates, two additional Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant attractions and new playground surfacing.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in the Spring of 2016 and spanned five days and required the support of more than 300 community volunteers! Phase 2 of the project was completed in the Spring of 2017 and consisted of new playground surfacing.
